At Cross Waste Management, we and our sister company Down To Earth Demolition are leading suppliers of aggregate from our base in Nottingham to customers across the region and elsewhere in the Midlands.
Type 1 Graded Limestone (Cambs Spec) is a 63mm down crushed Limestone and is typically used as a high quality fill or sub-base material.
This material is often used for the construction of car parks, driveways and non-adoptable roads. As the product is frost susceptible it is not classified as MOT, and therefore cannot be used on highways.
This is Building Material, not ideal to be used for decorative purpose.
Our Limestone Dust Fines are 0 – 4mm crushed limestone that is perfect to make driveways and paths on a budget – or as a base for laying paving slabs and block paving on. It can be also be mixed with cement to make concrete.
We have a selection of Recycled Sub-base Aggregates suited to different applications. Many construction projects require certified materials such as MOT Type 1 to be used. It is important the correct Recycled Sub-base Aggregate is used according to the situation, as sub-base aggregates have different properties making them more or less suitable for the job.
Road Planings are an aggregate produced by a cold milling machine, which removes the surface layer of a tarmacked area, such as a highway or footpath. This waste material is loaded into a lorry and is officially known as Road Planings, although many people refer to it as Road Scalpings or Road Scrapings. Due to their high fines content, Road Planings are not suitable for use as backfill in drainage trenches. Additionally, caution is needed when sourcing them, as older tarmac surfaces that have been deeply planed may contain tar. Despite these concerns, the use of Road Planings is generally considered environmentally friendly because bitumen is a natural substance. Using Road Planings also helps reduce the demand for quarried aggregates. However, obtaining Road Scalpings for free is now rare due to the economic recession's impact on local authorities, leading to less resurfacing work and a greater focus on recycling planings into new tarmac.
6F2 Recycled Capping is an aggregate made from crushed concrete, brick, and mortar, produced as a by-product of demolition projects. Sizes range from 75mm down to dust. The term "6F2 Capping" refers to a product that may vary in size depending on the supplier, but 75mm Crusher Run is a commonly recommended general-purpose aggregate. 6F2 Capping is primarily used as a sub-base for roads and buildings, but it also serves other purposes such as piling mats and general backfill. Its coarse nature makes it an excellent all-in-one product that forms a durable surface when compacted. 6F2 is ideal as an initial layer of hardcore, to be finished off with a layer of Type 1 sized material.
Type 1 Recycled Sub Base is an aggregate composed of blended crushed concrete, brick, and occasional asphalt. The sizes range from 40mm down to dust, creating an easily compacted recycled aggregate. It is graded according to the Specification for Highway Works 803 (SHW 803). This material serves as an excellent and often more cost-effective alternative to quarried Department of Transport Type 1 (also known as MOT).
An aggregate composed of crushed concrete, brick, and occasional asphalt, screened to remove the bulk of dust and fines. The sizes range from 75mm down to 40mm. This type of crushed concrete is mainly used as a sub-base or drainage layer where the presence of fines is undesirable. The coarse nature of 75-40mm crushed concrete makes it an excellent all-in-one product that forms a hard-wearing surface when compacted. It is an ideal, cost-effective alternative to limestone for use as a sub-base in equestrian arenas, as the reduced fines ensure that it does not block drainage systems.
